Lizard's Secluded Reef(er) Pages
Page 1

This page has been set up as a private visit by link only page set up within my ESL community site and although visitors and fish related links are welcome, I needed to keep it out of the general content of SaigonESL and Hanoi ESL as it is a personal project within my home.  Pages have been modified to adjust to local costs for services and stock.

I will try to have a semi-weekly photo update to chronologically keep track of this new work in progress.  If you would like to contact me, my e-mail is lizarddoctor@saigonesl.com.

Here is the first view of the new 400ltr (around 120 gallon) fish tank and air-conditioning unit after it was delivered to the house this last week.  As you can see, it will fit nicely in the living room under the division to the kitchen.  It is my plan to create a complete natural sea water reef system.  Although I have helped to maintain a fish-only system before, the challenge of creating a cost effective live-coral and anemone system has been a dream of mine for quite a long time.  The entire tank system with tank, stand, entire filtration system, lighting, coral substrate, 150lbs of live rock, 400 ltr of natural tropical seawater, and installation had a base cost of 6,000,000 VND (375$ USD) and the air conditioner unit was an additional 3,000,000 VND (187.50$) for a grand total of 9,000,000 VND (562.50$ USD) for an entire salt water system which is ready to handle a reef system here in Vietnam.

The guys hard at work on the stand and setting up the cabinet-hidden filtration system.

The pic to the right really shows off how big the tank is on the inside.

Instead of sand, the tank will feature an assortment of small sea corals, shells, and gravel across the base and within the filtering system for a more natural environment.

The rest of the system is at home, but when we had the tank up on the stand and ready to start filling it... we noticed a large scratch in the front pane of the glass on the inside.  Measuring nearly a foot long, we had to reorder another tank and I have another 5 day wait until the new tank comes.  In the meantime, I am browsing various internet resources and also visiting fish stores all over HCMC, Vietnam looking for salt water stock for the future.
On to the set-up phase (Page 2)
